Daily routine to promote a healthier life

Daily routine to promote a healthier life

On my quest to live a healthier life, I have implemented a  daily routine that helps to energize my mind and body for a productive day and ultimately, a long, healthy life.

Two weeks after implementing my new daily routine, I began to feel an enormous sense of well-being. I felt lighter more energetic and stronger throughout the day, I sleep better at night, have sharper, focus brain and feel more relaxed and positive about myself and my life.

5:30am

One of the benefits of getting up early is  "quietude".  The early morning hours are so peaceful, so quiet. It’s my favorite time of day. That time to myself, when I can meditate, think, read,  and breathe is priceless.

I start my day with a 15-minute breathing meditation followed by a 45-minute yoga or weight training session.

6:30am

I make my bulletproof coffee ( it does not affect my Interment fasting. The period of 12 to 16 hours without food) and head out with my dog Scout, for my  ecotherapy and cold therapy sessions aka my daily beach walk and swim in the cold waters of the LI sound.

It’s incredible that a little ecotherapy, such as a two-mile barefoot walk on the beach and a dunk in the Long Island Sound, can be so grounding. Grounding or earthing is a practice that electrically reconnects you to the earth's natural healing energy by contact of your skin with natural ground ex: grass, stones, dirt, or sand. Many health professionals believe that ecotherapy can help improve health conditions like chronic pain, fatigue, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression.

Another benefit of ecotherapy is absorbing negative ions. Negative ions are molecules that we inhale in abundance when in nature, especially on beaches, in the mountains, and in the forest. Negative ions produce biochemical reactions in the brain that boost serotonin levels, helping relieve anxiety, depression, and stress. A dunk in the cold waters of the Long Island Sound serves as my daily my cold therapy. Cold therapy activates endorphins, the chemical produced by the brain and makes us feel good during activities among other benefits such as improve circulation, boost immune system, increase libido, burn extra calories, reduce stress and my favorite triggers autophagy. (If you are unfamiliar, autophagy is the cells recycling system that disposes of diseased cells. As we age, the cells in our bodies start to wear out and don’t function like they used to, which ages us faster, slows us down, and can make us sick. Other way to promote autophagy is exercise, interment fasting and a  high fat low carb diet)

7:30am

I’m heading home for a cold shower and green juice right before I start my workday. After my meditation, workout, and ecotherapy/cold therapy session, I am energized, focused, and ready for anything that comes my way today!

12:00pm

I support my routine with a focus on my foods and supplements. I drink my juices throughout the day and consume as many polyphenol-rich foods I can. (Polyphenols are micronutrients packed with antioxidants) Some of my favorite’s polyphenol-rich foods include:

  • Blueberries, black currant, plums, and pomegranate
  • Pecans, almonds, and hazelnuts
  • Artichoke hearts, spinach, red onion, cruciferous vegetables
  • Turmeric, garlic, ginger, and mushrooms
  • Cocoa and dark chocolate
  • Drinks like green tea, black tea, ginseng tea, coffee, and red wine

5:00pm

When I come home from work, I end my day with a light, early dinner, and unplug from blue light emitting devices like my phone, computer, and television. I do this because the blue light from your devices can interrupt your circadian rhythm and keep you from having a good night’s sleep.

Give it a try!

There are so many steps you can implement now that will improve your overall health and quality of life. Start small and add on. Eat healthy, stay active, drink plenty of water, manage and reduce stress, improve sleep quality, keep your brain active and healthy. Changing your habits is a process that involves several stages and hard work, sometimes it takes a while before changes become a habit but if you stick with it, you will be rewarded with  a greater sense of well-being, a sharper focus brain, more energetic, positive and relaxed consequently reducing risk of many diseases including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and improving mental health, reducing anxiety and clearer thinking. Give it a try! You will feel better physically and mentally, and it might add a few years to your life in the process.
